Zombies, Auditions, and Derby Demons!

Get ready for an action packed weekend in Pittsburgh!

TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY:  The ScareHouse is interviewing local applicants (18 or older) for paid positions as actors, artists, and customer support staff.  No experience necessary!

Just come to The ScareHouse during any of the following dates & times:

Thursday and Friday, August 18 and 19th from 6-9pm

Saturday, August 20th from 12-5pm

Sunday, August 21st from 12-3pm

FRIDAY NIGHT: The ScareHouse Moonlit Matinee Film Festival at The Oaks presents a rare 35mm screening of George A. Romero's DAY OF THE DEAD (filmed right here in Pittsburgh.)

DAY OF THE DEAD is the third and concluding chapter in George Romero's zombie trilogy. Set in Florida, as the film begins the dead have taken over the world, outnumbering humans 400,000 to one. A handful of surviving humans have taken refuge in an underground missile silo: Sarah (Lori Cardille) -- a scientist who is trying to reverse the process whereby the dead turn into flesh-eating, irrational zombies -- and Dr. Logan (Richard Liberty) -- an out-of-his-mind psychologist who wants to capture the zombies and turn them into domestic help. Things heat up when the military tries to take over the scientific experiments.

This is an extremely rare 35mm print screening of the film, and the final film on the 9th annual Moonlit Matinee Film Festival.

Before the film, cast and crew members reunite on stage for an extended Q & A with local zombie fans.  Plus, a chance to win Pittsburgh Zombies merchandise from ScareHouse AND a chance to purchase the limited edition poster from Screaming Brain Studios.

SATURDAY: Are you ready for a double-header or roller derby action? The Steel City Derby Demons, sponsored by The ScareHouse, offer a pair of exciting bouts for you this weekend.  The Steel Hurtin’ will be playing the Cincinnati Black Sheep and the B-Unit will be playing the Cincinnati Silent Lambs.  This game excites us, folks.  The Hurtin’ and the Black Sheep have met twice before. The Sheep beat us first, and the second time, we were the victorious ones.  This game will be extremely physical as both of these teams are very evenly matched in skill level and intensity.  Come on down to Romp n’ Roll, you won’t regret it!

Derby Demons and The Pork Chop Express

This Saturday, The ScareHouse is proudly sponsoring two fantastic events filled with action, demons, and pure awesomeness.

First, get ready for a double-dose of hot derby action as The Steel City Derby Demons face two teams from the buckeye state.  First up, the Blitzburgh Bombers take on the North East Ohio Rock n’ Roller Girls from Akron, OH.  Then, for the first time in nearly two years, The Burning River Roller Girls from Cleveland return to the ‘burgh for a rematch.  

The SCDD is encouraging all of fans that are coming to the game on Saturday to participate in our BLACK OUT! Wear a black shirt to show your support for the derby!  (If you don’t have a black shirt, you can pick one up at our merch booth at the game)

The family-friendly action takes place at the Romp N Roll Skating Rink. 1661 East Sutter Rd, Glenshaw, PA 15116

Doors: 6:30, Action: 7:00.  Tickets are just $10 in advance and $15 at the door, and kids under 10 get in FREE.

 After the bout, it's just a 15 minute drive to the historic Oaks Theater...and a ride with Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express. The ScareHouse Moonlit Matinee presents a rare 35mm print of John Carpenter's Big Trouble in Little China, back on the big screen this weekend only! 

Big Trouble in Little China combines all the best elements of martial arts films, 1940s action serials, 80's action movies, Chinese mythology and straight-forward American adventure to create a true cult classic. Kurt Russell stars as the brash, brave, and reluctant hero Jack Burton, who is hysterically out of place in this world of magic potions, goblins and curses.

Derby Demons want you!

You don't have to strap on the skates to belong to the Steel City Derby Demons community! Join the SCDD as a Referee or Non-Skating Official (Stats, penalty tracker, etc).

It's fun and rewarding. You don't have to know how to skate, and the derby girls will teach you to rock the quads! If you can, that's great and they will utilize your skills. 

This is an opportunity to have a real impact in derby and the SCDD. And best of all, you get to be a part of this incredible league!

Double Glory!

Last Saturday, The Steel City Derby Demons (Pittsburgh's all-female roller derby league) celebrated double glory as the Steel Hurtin' and the B-Unit both brought home wins!

The B-Unit started out the night giving The Lehigh Valley Roller Girls a run for their money, gaining an early lead in the first half of their game. However, by the second half, the penalties started to accumulate and the action heated up as the gap in the score narrowed. B-Unit was able to hang on to the lead, and snagged the win with a final score of 90 - 81.

The Steel Hurtin played fast and strong as always, in the Steel City Derby Demons' very first international battle against the ladies of Hammer City (thats Hamilton, Ontario, Canada). The Hurtin' grabbed an early lead of which Hammer City was never able to recapture. It was another runaway win for our A-Team!
